March 8, 2021Our celebration of Black History Month continues with a spotlight on Squad 8 Firefighter Melissa Bennett, one of the highly-trained first responders in our Special Operations Command (SOC). As a member of this specialized company, she responds to unique and highly critical situations throughout Staten Island. Bennett is one of six woman Firefighters currently working in SOC. From 2017-2019, she also represented our Department with distinction when she served as a drill instructor at our Probationary Firefighter School on Randall’s Island.
