February 7, 2022Our Bureau of Fire Prevention is currently looking for Assistant Electrical Engineers to help keep New Yorkers safe. Today, meet Assistant Electrical Engineer Simranjeet Singh Chadha, who will help you learn more about this important career.
“The Bureau of Fire Prevention has many different units and I work in the Plan Examination Unit. We approve plans submitted by applicants from the City and I examine them to make sure the electrical wiring and fire alarm systems are set up correctly,” he explained. “Once the Plan Examination Unit approves, it is then sent to the Inspection Unit and the inspectors then go in the field to monitor and make sure the submitted plans are being designed as they were approved. We work hand in hand to help keep the City safe. Some qualities that are needed for this position is knowing the codes, being able to pay attention to detail consistently and being able to examine and analyze plans. Sometimes we have multiple meetings with an applicant before a plan can be approved, so being able to work with people on various levels is crucial as well.”
