April 23, 2025More than 90 students from Captain Vernon A. Richard High School and FDNY Explorers joined forces for this year’s Spring Youth Leadership Academy.
This 3-day experience was packed with hands-on training in firefighting, EMS, drone flying, fitness drills, and team challenges. “It’s a great opportunity to learn more skills, and it’s actually preparing me to be an EMT,” shared Akeelah Daly, a Junior at the school. High School Junior Mikehal Fletcher Naredo enjoyed teambuilding. “I learned that when you work in groups, you can get things done easier and the rewards may be higher.”
